HOW WE TUNE EACH OTHER – shhh – it’s about vibes
Everything in the physical universe is in a state of constant vibration on an atomic level. Far from being self-contained, as we interact with other people our vibrational frequencies will often “tune” each other. While invisible to the naked eye, we know these vibes are super-powerful.
How do we know?
Think of a time you were in a good mood and then ran into someone awash with complaints. By the time you moved on, you may have experienced quite a change in your mood. Then someone whose vibes are warm and vibrant comes along and hey: it’s not such a bad day after all. These are examples of you taking on another’s vibrations.
In North America, we’re what you might call “thing-thinkers.” We focus on material reality and have so little awareness of the greater part of reality that we even have trouble coming up with words about it. Vibes are a part of non-material reality: no less real – maybe even more real – than the device you’re reading this on.
To develop your sensitivity to vibes, after a conversation with another, notice: Did the conversation you just had leave you feeling uplifted or deflated? Is there a smile on your face you can’t wipe off? Or is there a sort of resignation in you? Or are you left pondering something in your life you had just recognized. That’s you noticing the tuning from someone else.
Is there a way to cultivate good vibes in conversation that will benefit both you and the other?
See and reflect on the other’s resourcefulness. When you are with someone in difficulties, seeing their gifts and abilities helps them notice these things as well. This is not mindless positivity: this is you tuning into resources that you recognize in them that they may not be seeing in themselves. As you do, their landscape no longer will look so bleak to them. That’s you becoming a source of good vibes, tuning others to what’s best IN them. It actually raises your own vibes as well.
We often forget about inner resources we’ve not used in recent times. This happened to me in a challenging situation: when someone showed me I had some abilities I’d forgotten about, I owned them all over again. By tuning in to overlooked capabilities, you may be doing more than you can imagine.
Enjoy it.
